Biographical / Historical

The University of Hong Kong closed in late 1941 when the Japanese invaded and occupied Hong Kong. The campus was heavily damaged during the occupation and students, faculty, and staff dispersed widely. After the war, Vice Chancellor Duncan Sloss and the colonial government wanted to re-establish the University as quickly as possible, but there were many obstacles to overcome. Eventually the University was officially re-established and resumed normal operations in 1948.
