Macao Story in Stone, Final Draft—Copy 2, Part 1
Content Description
This collection consists of the personal papers and effects of Sir Lindsay Tasman Ride. There are documents including letters, speeches, notes, and other materials relating to both Ride’s role as a professor of physiology and the Vice Chancellor of the University of Hong Kong. Also included are materials relating to his military services with the Hong Kong Volunteer Defense Corps (HKVDC) and British Army Aid Group (BAAG). In the 1950s Ride became interested in the Protestant Cemetery in Macau and eventually wrote a book about it. Research materials for that book, as well as draft editions are included in this collection. There are also several files relating to other miscellaneous and personal matters. In addition to documents there are also hundreds of photographs. The photographs mostly related to Macau and the cemetery there, but there are also pictures of Hong Kong in general, the University of Hong Kong, and of Ride’s travels abroad. This collection also contains many other objects including maps, scrolls of calligraphy and paintings that were given to Ride as gifts, charcoal drawings of BAAG members, BAAG flags and shields, and Ride’s military uniforms and academic robes.
