Biographical / Historical

George Beer Endacott was a British-born Hong Kong historian who served as lecturer at HKU from 1946 until his retirement in 1962. His works include "A History of Hong Kong," "Fragrant Harbour. A Short History of Hong Kong," "An Eastern Entrepot: A Collection of Documents Illustrating the History of Hong Kong," and "Government and the People."

Endacott was a graduate of Exeter University and Balliol College, Oxford. Prior to working at HKU he served in the British Navy during the Second World War.

Geoffrey Charles Emerson arrived in Hong Kong in 1964 to teach at St. Paul's College, where he remained until his retirement in 2000. He wrote "Hong Kong Internment, 1942–1945" and was active in Hong Kong history organizations.
