Content Description
Correspondence, departmental records, teaching materials, and Fine Arts promotional materials document the career of Carolyn Diskant Muir at the University of Hong Kong and the history of the Department of Fine Arts from the late 1970s until 2013 as well as Muir's teaching career. Teaching materials include lecture notes, student feedback forms, gradebooks, and assignments while departmental records include meeting minutes, correspondence, reports, promotional material, publications and 26 photographs .

Biographical / Historical
Caroyln Diskant Muir received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Wellsley College, followed by a Master of Arts from the University of Pennsylvania and her doctorate in Art History from the University of Manchester. She arrived at HKU in 1979 where she taught courses on Renaissance art, women and art as well as an introductory survey of Western art until her retirement in 2013. From 1989 until 2000 she served as Head of the Department of Fine Arts. Her research focused on religious iconography in late-Medieval Baroque art. Muir's publications include "Saintly brides and bridegrooms : the mystic marriage in northern Renaissance art," "St Agnes of Rome as a bride of christ : a northern European phenomenon, c. 1450-1520," and several other articles.
