A book written by James Cotter Morison, published by Watts and Co. in London in 1903. Signed by Hsü Ti-shan on the title page with the seal "面壁齋圖書". A card printed with author's name and the book title was attached to the book.

A stitched binding book marked with the word "鄲城夏氏歡喜念佛齋自課本" (Dancheng Xia Huan Xi Nian Fo Convent Self-study Manual). The convent is suspected to be related to 夏繼泉 (Xia Jichuan).

A textbook introducing the pronunciaiton of Chinese with the comparison of different dialects including Cantonese andd , with the support of 注音符號 (Bopomofo, Mandarin Phonetic Symbols). 國語羅馬字 (Gwoyeu Romatzyh, National Language Romanization) is also introduced in the book.

The book is published in 宣統三年 [1911] published by 揚州藏經院. There is a stamp "馬鑑之印" (Stamp of Ma Kiam) on the first page of content.
