Biography

Situated in Cape d'Aguilar, The Swire Institutes of Marine Science (SWIMS) was established in November 1990 with the generous funding received from the Swire Group. The aim of the SWIMS is to develop a research centre for the study of marine science in Southeast Asia. SWIMS was originally named “Swire Marine Laboratory” before its expansion in 1994 and it remained an independent institute till 1998. Now the Institute is a division of the School of Biological Science at the University of Hong Kong (HKU).

Scope and Contents

A collection transferred from the Swire Institute of Marine Science (SWIMS) which includes various types of materials including documents, photos, films, negatives and newspaper cuttings. Documents are mainly related to the planning and development of SWIMS Phase III with the donation from the Swire Group. Materials discussing the increasing number of visitors of Cape d'Aguilar are also found in the file.
